I’ve been afraid of spiders my whole life. They are super scary and when I see one I start to freak out. My breathing intensifies and I start to sweat. I tremble and can hardly move. I also have a five-day rule. After I see a spider, I can’t go back into that room for another five days without being all paranoid. Fortunately, I am still only a teenager and live with my mom AKA the spider exterminator. My fear of oceans came to be a few years ago. Before that, I loved the ocean. One day, when my family was vacationing in Atlantic City we went swimming and I got caught in one of those thingies that pulls you out farther into the water. I tried to swim perpendicular to it, like I saw on TV, but the waves were very large, and I quickly got pulled beneath the water. It was about 20 seconds before I came back up, but I was panicking so it felt like forever. I got my bearings and attempted to swim, however the waves had pulled me under again and I was tossed around underwater. I came up gasping for air and tried to call for help but couldn’t because I was choking. This happened a few more times and I thought for sure I was a goner. Fortunately, my dad was able to pull me out and I was fine. But now, I can’t even look at the ocean without getting all freaked out.
