I have had a fear or uncomfortable feeling about touching my belly button or even when I see someone else touching theirs. However the the Omphalophobia heading states that it is brought about by some childhood trauma. That is BS. I had never told my children of my fear and yet when all 4 of us were talking one day my youngest being 14 and my oldest being 23 I spoke for the 1st time openly with them. Almost in unison they were shocked and told me of their own belly button issue. We also share the same phobia of cotton or dry materials except for my son. So phooey on the theory that phobias always derive from some trauma. That is like saying that being hating a color is because I must have been traumatized by green. Which coincidentally me and my 3 adult children all have the same favorite color blue. Sorry for the tangent.
